"Apes" Cling To First Place

The Vancouver-lensed "Planet Of The Apes" reboot, "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes" has held onto the top spot at the North American box office over the August 12, 2011 weekend, earning an estimated $27.5 million, bringing in a 10-day total of $104, 876,000 domestic, for a worldwide total box office of $179,276,000.

The 20th Century Fox motion picture is 'inspired' by the backstory of the 1963 novel "Planet of the Apes" by author Pierre Boulle.

Directed by Rupert Wyatt, "Rise" is intended to be a foundation origin story for a new movie franchise series.

Premise of "Rise" is similar to the fourth film in the original Fox "POTA" series, "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" (1972).


"Rise" cast includes James Franco, Freida Pinto, Andy Serkis, John Lithgow, Chelah Horsdal,Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, David Hewlett and Jamie Harris.
