20th Century Fox is developing a big budget, SFX-laden "X-Men" movie spin-off focusing on Marvel Comics' "X-Force" team, with Jeff Wadlow ("Kick-Ass 2") writing the screenplay and Lauren Shuller Donner producing. So what exactly is "X-Force" ?
Conceived by writer/illustrator Rob Liefeld, the superhero mutant team, "...more militant than 'X-Men'", debuted in Marvel Comics' "New Mutants" #100 (April 1991).
The characters then received their own series, incarnating the 1980's superhero team, the 'New Mutants', led by 'Cable'.
In addition to Cable, the original team line-up included 'Boom Boom', 'Cannonball', 'Domino', 'Feral', 'Shatterstar, 'Warpath', 'Siryn', 'Rictor' and 'Sunspot'.
The main opponents of X-Force were the terrorist 'Mutant Liberation Front', led by 'Stryfe', a masked mutant with a mysterious link to Cable.
Also featured was wise-cracking mercenary 'Deadpool', the 'Externals' and a new version of the 'Brotherhood of Mutants'.
