More Spoilers From "The Vampire Diaries: Season 5"

Take another look at extended footage from Season 5 of The CW's "The Vampire Diaries", premiering October 3, 2013, based on the book series by author L. J. Smith, plus an interview with series star Nina Dobrev.

From Alloy Entertainment and Bonanza Productions Inc in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios, executive producers of the upcoming season are Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec, Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy.

The series is set in 'Mystic Falls', Virginia, a small town haunted by supernatural beings, with the main focus, a love triangle between protagonist 'Elena Gilbert' (Nina Dobrev) and vampire-brothers 'Stefan Salvatore' (Paul Wesley) and 'Damon Salvatore' (Ian Somerhalder).

As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the focal point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena's malevolent 'doppelgänger' named 'Katerina Petrova' and the family of 'Original Vampires', all of which have an evil agenda of their own.

The first episode of the new season is titled "I Know What You Did Last Summer", directed by Lance Anderson, introducing new characters 'Nadia' (Olga Fonda), 'Jesse' (Kendrick Sampson) and 'Tessa' (Janina Gavankar).

"It’s a time jump", said showrunner Plec about Season 5. "Summer has passed in which poor 'Stefan' has been suffering at the bottom of the quarry and 'Damon' and 'Elena' have been having hot lovin’ sex...We found a stylized way to show the audience how things went over the summer, what everybody was up to..."

Season 5 will also see 'Elena' and 'Caroline' attending college.

"We establish a university that's old and steeped in tradition," said Plec, "and it’s been around for a while, and the room reflects that. It’s got the big arched ceilings and a good, old-world feel to it...of course things will go instantly, terribly wrong...

"It's so fun because you have this whole fresh new story at college, in the midst of which 'Damon' has to show up there to solve a problem or 'Elena' has to rush home to solve a problem or 'Caroline' comes home for a holiday, so I think that we will have conquered the college curse pretty well...

"We've got some juicy villains that need some vanquishing and there’s always a possibility that one of our beloved heroes will kick the bucket. When, who, or how, I’ll never tell, but it’s definitely in the cards..."

Regular cast returning are Dobrev, Wesley, Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Katerina Graham, Zach Roerig, Candice Accola, Michael Trevino, Claire Holt, Grace Phipps, Rick Worthy, Marguerite MacIntyre and Arielle Kebbel.
