Meet The New "Flash"

Sneak Peek the new actor cast as DC Comics' 'Scarlet Speedster', the 'Flash', who will appear in 3 episodes of The CW's "Arrow" TV series, before spinning off into a solo series, also set in the DC superhero Universe.

Actor Grant Gustin ("Glee") will play 'Barry Allen', aka the 'Flash' in the second season of "Arrow":

"...'Barry Allen' is a 'Central City' assistant police forensic investigator who comes to 'Starling City' to look into a series of unexplained robberies which he believes may be connected to his tragic past. As a comic book fanboy, Barry is obsessed with 'Arrow' and ends up working with 'Oliver' and 'Felicity' before crossing paths with the hooded, vigilante archer..."

"I’ve been a lifelong fan of DC Comics," said Gustin, "so I can’t be more honored and can’t wait to get started."

"Part of the fun for the audience is to see how we view our 'Arrow' take on the 'Flash' legacy," said "Arrow" producer Andrew Kreisberg.

"Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached 'Arrow' is the same way we're approaching 'Barry'. There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way..."

Created by writer Gardner Fox and illustrator Harry Lampert, the original Flash first appeared in "Flash Comics" #1 (January 1940).

The character possesses the ability to run and move extremely fast, use superhuman reflexes and seemingly violate certain laws of physics.

To date, four different characters—each of whom gained the power of  'super-speed' have assumed the identity of the Flash, including 'Jay Garrick' (1940–present), 'Barry Allen' (1956–1985, 2008–present), 'Wally West' (1986–2006, 2007–2012), and 'Bart Allen' (2006–2007, 2009–present). Before Wally and Bart's ascension to the mantle of the Flash, they were both Flash protégés under the same name 'Kid Flash'.
