Now that "Deadpool 2" has wrapped principal photography, VancouverFilm.Net reports that the British Columbia workplace safety agency 'WorkSafeBC', released their findings into the on-set death of 40-year old motorcyclist, road racer, Joi 'SJ' Harris, who was killed performing an early morning stunt, August 14, 2017:
"...near Jack Poole Plaza in downtown Vancouver, the stunt required a 'Ducati 939 Hyperstrada' motorcycle to speed through the open doors of a building...
"...across a concrete pad and down a temporary ramp that was built over three stairs, coming to a stop on the stair landing.
"During the first shooting of the scene the stunt driver continued driving beyond the planned stopping point on the stairway landing and continued to drive down a second ramp built over the bottom stairs and across the roadway.
"The motorcycle struck the concrete sidewalk curb, the worker was thrown off the motorcycle...
"...and propelled through a plate glass window of a building."
WorkSafeBC is continuing to investigate.
Although Harris was an experienced rider, this was her first film stunt, called in to replace another stunt performer...
...to double the character 'Domino' (Zazie Beetz).
Harris was not given a helmet to wear "...because the character was not wearing one", even though production could have provided her with head protection and an 'afro' wig fitted over.
Production on the film was suspended after the accident, but resumed two days later.
