Dynamite Entertainment's "Red Sonja" #15, available March 28, 2018, is written by Amy Chu, Erik Burnham and illustrated by Carlos Gomez, with covers by Mike McKone, Carlos Gomez, Juan Doe and Anthony Marques, in support of Millennium Media's developing "Red Sonja" feature film:
"...'Sonja' returns to where her adventure started, the nation of 'Meru', to find it completely under the iron rule of 'Kulan Gath' -- who is using native magic to grow more powerful than ever.
"The wizard needs to be stopped once and for all, before he finally gains the omnipotence he craves...but there's one thing still standing between Gath and Sonja -- and it's something she never expected to face..."
In other 'Red Sonja" news, Millennium Media ("The Expendables") are currently developing a remake of the 1985 feature "Red Sonja", with Millennium's Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta producing alongside Cinelou's Mark Canton.
"Red Sonja" was created by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Barry Smith, as a female foil to their Marvel Comics version of author Robert E. Howard's "Conan the Barbarian".
Howard created female warriors 'BĂȘlit' and 'Valeria', for the "Weird Tales" magazine stories "Queen of the Black Coast"...
...and "Red Nails"...
...also creating character 'Red Sonya', aka 'Sonya of Rogatino', who although not a 'sword 'n sorcery' hero, carried a pistol, debuting in "The Magic Carpet Magazine" (1934).
