Cancel Culture: "Batgirl"

"Batgirl", the $90 million budgeted live-action superhero feature, based on the DC Comics character, starring Leslie Grace as 'Barbara Gordon', directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah,  has been canceled for a theatrical release and subsequent streaming run on HBO Max:

"...studio insiders insist the decision was not driven by the quality of the film or the commitment of the filmmakers, but by the desire for the studio’s slate of DC features to be at a 'blockbuster' scale..."

The first 'Bat-Girl' aka 'Betty Kane' (named after 'Batman' creator Bob Kane) debuted in DC Comics (1961)...

...created by writer Sheldon Moldoff  and illustrator Bill Finger.

...then replaced by 'Barbara Gordon',  as the daughter of 'Gotham City' police commissioner 'James Gordon'...

...in "Detective Comics" #359 (1967) by writer Gardner Fox and illustrator Carmine Infantino.

In DC Comics' "New 52" series (2011), 'Barbara Gordon', previously wounded in action as a costumed vigilante, regained her mobility after undergoing experimental surgery at a South African clinic.

Although she resumes her work as 'Batgirl' one year after her recovery, she continues to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder...

...causing her to hesitate in battle when exposed to gunfire.
