"Star Trek Online" Boldly Goes 'Free-To-Play'

According to BigGameHunter, the chief financial officer of Perfect World Entertainment made a statement in his company’s recent call to investors confirming that new company purchase, Cryptic Studios is developing a 'free-to-play' mode for "Star Trek Online", with the basic game becoming free-to-play "by the end of the year".

Released February 2010, the 'massively multiplayer online role-playing game' (MMORPG), based on the "Star Trek" universe created by Gene Roddenberry, is set in the 25th century, 30 years after the events of the motion picture "Star Trek Nemesis".

In the game, each player is Captain of an individual ship, featuring references to storylines and characters from "Star Trek" TV episodes.
