Lionsgate Collecting "Action No. 1"

Lionsgate is developing the comedic feature "Action No. 1", based on events surrounding the real-life theft in 2000, of actor Nicolas Cage's near mint copy of "Action Comics" #1.

The comic book, featuring the first appearance of 'Superman', unknowingly wound up in an abandoned storage locker, then put up for auction, selling for $2.1 million.

Screenplay will be written by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon ("Reno 911!").

Published April 18, 1938 (cover-dated June), by National Allied Publications, a corporate predecessor of DC Comics, "Action Comics" #1 is considered the first true 'superhero' comic book, featuring the first appearance of several comic book heroes, most notably the Jerry Siegel/Joe Shuster creation 'Superman'.
