Gear Up For Super-Robot "Gaiking"




In the wake of the upcoming 'mecha' movie "Pacific Rim", comes word that producer Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Entertainment and Toei Animation have teamed with All Nippon Entertainment Works (ANEW) to develop Toei's mecha anime property "Gaiking" into a live-action feature.


"I'm extremely excited to be working on 'Gaiking'," said Hurd.


"Gaiking" (aka 'Demon Dragon of the Heavens') was originally  produced by Toei Animation, airing April 1976 to January 1977 with 44 26-minute episodes :


"...'Gaiking' chronicles the battle between  'Super Robot Gaiking' invented by 'Dr. Daimonji' (aka 'Professor Hightech'), piloted by former baseball star 'Sanshiro Tsuwabuki' (aka 'Aries Astronopolis'), teamed with the crew of the semi-transformable carrier 'Daikū Maryū' (aka 'Kargosaur, the Great Space Dragon'), against an invading 'Dark Horror Army' race of aliens, led by 'Prince Darius', from the planet 'Zela'..."
