Actor Vin Diesel has confirmed he will provide the voice of CG-animated character 'Groot' in director James Gunn's currently filming Marvel Studios' feature "Guardians Of The Galaxy".

So just who (or what) is 'Groot' ?
Groot (aka the 'Monarch of Planet X') was created for Marvel Comics by writer Stan Lee and illustrators Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers, debuting in Marvel's "Tales to Astonish" #13 (November 1960), as an extraterrestrial, sentient tree-like creature, who first appeared as an invader who intended to capture humans for experimentation.
The character was then reconfigured into a heroic, noble being in 2006, and appeared in the crossover comic book storyline "Annihilation: Conquest". He went on to star in its spin-off series, "Guardians of the Galaxy", joining the team of the same name.
