'Electro' Powers Up For "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"

Director Marc Webb has now confirmed that Marvel Comics costumed super-villain 'Electro', to be played by actor Jamie Foxx ("Django Unchained") will be the main villain in the Sony sequel, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". "

"I think 'Electro' is an incredibly visual, exciting, dangerous villain," said Webb. "There is a lot of appealing stuff that is going to happen as the world emerges."

Electro first appeared in Marvel Comics' "The Amazing Spider-Man" # 9 (February 1964),  created by writer Stan Lee and illustrator Steve Ditko.

According to the origin story, 'Electro', aka 'Maxwell Dillon' had ambitions of being an electrical engineer, taking on a job as a lineman for an electric company.

While repairing a power line still connected to its spool,  Dillon was struck by lightning while holding live, high-tension wires and a wound reel of one-inch cable. Following the accident, Dillon discovered he could generate massive quantities of electricity, up to one million volts, as lightning arcs from his fingertips.

When his body was charged to high levels, Dillon could also become superhumanly strong and fast, able to glide over power lines by using  electricity for propulsion. He could also ionize metals, sparking petroleum in auto fuel tanks as a way to generate explosions.

He made Spider-Man helpless by stimulating the bio-electric currents in his brain, able to override any electrically powered device and manipulate it according to his mental commands.

After creating a costume to conceal his identity, Dillon turned to a life of crime as 'Electro'.
